The Apostle Paul is, in the Book of Romans, explaining the true essence of salvation. In particular, Paul is teaching that a person is saved by faith alone in Christ alone and not saved through works or religious piety. Paul uses the story of Abraham as the best example of a person being justified by faith in Christ, because everyone knows that Abraham was a great man. Surely if anyone could “work” or “earn” their way to heaven, Abraham could. But instead we find that Abraham got saved the same way anyone gets saved, by faith alone in Christ.
