Today, I took my two sons to the San Diego Chargers Training Camp today to watch one of the best teams in the NFL get ready for their 2008 season. Here is a picture of Darren Sproles (43), LaDainian Tomlinson (21), Jacob Hester (22), and Andrew Pinnock (34) doing a few drills.
Tra Battle (36), who is a true gentleman, had his assistant seat us in the family section on the sideline. I met Tra last year when he came to our church to speak to our youth. Today, Tra, showing true class, took off his NFL gloves, signed them both and gave one to each of my two boys! I think they may have fallen asleep tonight while still wearing them.
Tra and I like to pick at each other because he is a former Georgia Bulldog and I am LSU Tiger fan. In the picture below he took my Antonio Gates (85) jersey and covered up my LSU tee-shirt. Hey, count the rings, Tra! … of course, who am I to talk? I sit in the bleachers; Tra actually straps on a helmet and gets paid for it!
It was truly amazing to watch LaDainian Tomlinson and Jacob Hester up close. Their speed, sharp routes, and superior athleticism causes them to stand out even in a crowd of hundreds of professional athletes. Hester, whose power reminds me of Earl Campbell, has deceptive speed and elusive moves that cause the crowd to gasp at times. Several spectators agreed with me that he seems to move as fast side-ways as he does forward and at all times keeping his shoulders square. He runs, he blocks, he catches… he is what you may call an old school leatherhead football player… just give him the ball and get ready to move the chains!
Jacob and I got to briefly talk about LSU’s Championship season last year, about how his family has settled in nicely in San Diego, and how we are all hoping he has a great Rookie season as a Charger.
God bless you, Jacob.
And thanks, again, to Tra for all of your graciousness and love for our Lord.
And thanks to your assistant Ysabel and my Chairman of the Deacons Paul who were instrumental in setting the whole thing up!
You guys are the best, and my kids are still looking at that football with all all the signatures of the players they talked to today!

Jason, you providentially fortunate dog you!! Great pics.
Jason,
Now you’re just showing off.
What a grand opportunity for your family!
fyi, the local GB papers are saying Flynn is close to being the #2 QB for the Packers, moving ahead of Brohm
Dac,
Matt is a much better QB than Brohm, and even better, in my opinion, that Rogers. Why? Rogers has no touch on the ball. In fact, Favre had a better touch on the ball than Rogers. And Matt rarely throws interceptions. At LSU he was surrounded with talent, and his ego was thus always in check. He waited for years to get his chance to be QB1 behind Mauck and Russell. And when he got his chance, he knew that his job was to get the ball into the hands of the play makers. He did and has a big BCS Championship ring to prove it.
well, Flynn may become a better player than Rogers, but based on what I have watched so far, he doesn’t know the GB offense yet.
And While Rogers has a poor touch, he does have a cannon of an arm. I am not sure that Flynn’s arm is strong enough
Photoshop!
