Brian McLaren neither understands the biblical doctrine of the cross nor the true reason God sends sinners to Hell.
McLaren will be at Point Loma Nazarene University March 28-29 in San Diego, CA. I know several students who go there and I may attend McLaren’s lecutures if I can. He is one of the most dangerous heretics influencing young Christians today.

“The Cross is ‘false advertising’” … who’s the lap dog that lapped that up?! Oops … he did “throw in” 70 x 7 (which, not incidentally, is the number of years which the Sabbath* was profaned).
C.J. Mahaney, via his Living The Cross-Centered Life, observed (I paraphrase; it’s at home and I’m not): Grace cannot be amazing to one who doesn’t comprehend the wrath of God. One word explains why Jesus refused to “come down from the cross”: Wrath. Of course, love, mercy, etc., are apt, but wrath is the ultimate issue.
* No sidetrack desired; indeed, Hebrews 7:12: For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must be a change of the law as well. (Holman C.S.B.)
After reading and reviewing Mr. McLaren’s last three books, I sadly have to agree with your assessment.
Sadder still is the number of people who, because of some valid criticisms of the church Mr. McLaren makes, or because of their intense cravings for the warm fuzzies his writings seem to invoke, feel absolutely compelled to make what he’s plainly said out to be not so bad. Some of these people ought to know better, if fact, I am convinced that they do know better, but they want to see change in the North American church so badly that they end up being willing to make common cause with people that do the cause of Christ no good.

And I couldn’t agree with you more my brother. I appreciate your continuing to tell people the truth here at FIDE-O.

That’s my opinion, for what it’s worth.
McLaren? Sissified mama’s boys don’t believe in hell. Heard it here first.
