Uhhh… I don’t follow college-ball, so I have no idea what lead up to this, or any of the facts of either the game or the newspaper article. But all I can say is this: if my boy was to ever sit under a coach, I’d want it to be a guy like him!
Those of you who have not seen this need to watch it. I am a huge fan of Mike Gundy today and forevermore. One of the many reasons College Sports is 10 times better than Pro anything.
Journalism unfortunately has become a “gotcha” sport in and of itself. Hopefully more of these coaches will stand up for their players. The media really sickens me.
I’m from Oklahoma…most of my family attended school or graduated from Oklahoma State University (except for me–the Baptist preacher boy [OBU!])…I am proud of Coach Gundy standing up for his players and putting the attack-dog media in its place!
Makes me even more proud that I’m an OSU Cowboy! Go Pokes!
Sorry to disappoint OSU fans, but Gundy’s little tantrum validated everything columnist Jenni Carlson said: “Reid is the most talented quarterback in Payne County, but he hasn’t proven that he’s the toughest.” (You can read the entire article in question here.)
He essentially compared Bobby Reid to a little kid who came running home, crying to Mommy because he had his feelings hurt. Now, it’s one thing to “stand up for his players.” It’s another thing to mother them like they’re fragile 9-year-old girls. Saying to the press, “Come after me! I’m a man!” was an insult to these college football players.
Aside from all that, did anyone notice that he said 3/4 of the article was inaccurate? Which parts were those? What 1/4 was accurate?
