Murrieta Valley Church is hosting two great debates this summer. The first debate will be a display of presuppositional apologetics versus apostasy. The second will be a friendly intramural debate among Christian brothers over the highly debated and extremely important topic of baptism. Everyone is invited to attend these debates.
On the Sunday nights following each debate Murrieta Valley Church will host a panel discussion featuring MVC’s five pastors and their guest apologist Gene Cook, Jr. These men will publically discuss the debate from the previous week and also take questions from the audience. This should be lots of fun and very informative.

August 12, at 6:00 PM, Panel Discussion of Debate #1
August 19, at 6:00 PM, Debate #2

Why do you consider the in-house debate regarding baptism to be “extremely important”?
Sweetfield, thanks for the great question. Why do we consider the issue of baptism to be extremely important. Lets consider the following:
(1) The doctrine of baptism is one of the most important doctrines of the New Covenant Church. Just look at its prominent place in the discussion between Paul and Apollos in Acts 19.
(2) It represents one half of all the Divine ordinances given to the church.
(3) It has been the biggest dividing controversy between the reformed.
(4) All of the reformed believe that it is part of salvation though not salvific in and of itself.
(5) Jesus specifically commands it.
…make sense?
Now, if you are wondering why it is extremely important to our church as an intramural debate, let me explain.
(1) It gives our members opportunity to be educated in one of the most important doctrines related to the New Covenant Church.
(2) It gives everyone a better understanding of opposing views within this doctrine, so that we may have a stronger fellowship will all of our Christian family — even those whom we disagree with.
(3) It helps all to understand the strengths and weaknesses within the arguments so that we are better equipped to answer questions we may be asked.
(4) It gives us opportunity to illustrate how Christians can both debate each other and at the same time show Christian charity rather than become mean and divisive.
…and that is just a few of our reasons.
Hope that is helpful.
Thank you for the thoughtful answer. It was indeed very helpful.
I’m looking forward to both of these debates. Thanks for hosting them.
