That’s 8 SEC teams in the Top 25!!
In fact, all eight are within the Top 20, seven are in the Top 15, and five are in the Top 10.
Ranked by conference, the conferences with the toughest schedules this year will be:
1st place: 8 teams – SEC
2nd place: 5 teams – Pac-10
3rd place: 4 teams – Big Ten (5 if you count Notre Dame)
4th place: 3 teams – ACC
5th place: 2 teams – Big East
6th place: 2 teams – Big 12
The big question for LSU is, “Can the new LSU QB Matt Flynn have an entire season like the game he had against Miami in 2005′s Peach Bowl?”
But the secret LSU weapon this year (though it is no secret really) is Trindon Holliday. Holliday can run the 100 meters in 10.06 seconds. Watch ‘em kick away from this guy!
The so-called experts give LSU at 12-1 odds in making it to the National Championship this year. Of course, the Trojans who enjoy a weaker conference and no conference game have a 5-2 odds.

OK… now that I’ve re-read that list it makes sense. At first I thought this was rivals.com’s preseason rankinings, not *schedule* rankings. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my beloved Huskers at #12.
Sorry. I’m fine now. Back to work.
This is coming from a ‘Big Orange’ fan, so it means something. I’m not sure what, but something.
I don’t see how Tennessee is #6 while LSU is # 18.
Can’t wait! Geaux Tigers!
Maryland has a toughet schedule than Alabama? Are you kidding me?
The real question you need to ask is how you are going to beat Auburn. War Eagle!
I don’t see how Tennessee is #6 while LSU is # 18.
Why? Let’s take a look:
at California
at Florida
at Alabama
at Kentucky
Plus Georgia is going to be looking to answer for getting embarrassed at home last season.
Don’t forget Southern Miss always plays SEC teams tough, even when they get blown out. Should not be any different this time around, either.
On top of that, UT has to play Arkansas. You never know which Arkansas team you’re going to get year in and year out, but they always play Tennessee tough. They will be beat up because of their schedule, but you never know.
Furthermore, Vanderbilt has ceased to be a “gimme” in recent years. You actually have to game plan them now.
LSU may be playing Virginia Tech this year, but they are at home. All of their tough divisional opponents will also be in Death Valley. The only road test they will have is Kentucky.
Arkansas will be beat up after playing 10 consecutive weeks, and having played South Carolina and Tennessee back to back before LSU, who will likely demolish the tired and abused Razorbacks.
Kentucky is an enigma this year. Will they improve on last year? Will they regress after tasting success? They are a tough team going into 2007, IMO, but they are still “kid brother” to folks like UT and LSU.
The dark horse this year is Mississippi State. We’ll have to see if they’re improved or keeping that doormat handy.
This also coming from a Big Orange fan.
Anyway, Jason is once again right on the money. If the SEC gets dissed again this year, we ought to just change the conference name to “Job.”
Ohhhh…Schedule rankings. Now I understand. Tennessee always has a tough schedule.
GO GATORS!
GO GATORS!
Q. Which team had the most players taken in the first day of the NFL draft this year? (Generally an under-rated indicator of a superior program…)
A. LSU
Well its good to see a Mississippi team made it high is some rankings. To bad its not for winning games.
