You are the hand that catches my fall
You are the friend that answers my call
You are my day You are my night
Your are my love and all of my life
You are the love I need
You are the air I breathe
You are my love my life always forever
I would lay down my life
Just to be by Your side
You are my love
My life always forever

Um, that would be your girlfriend, Scott.
Verse two at least covers grace and sin. And the bridge says “Hallelujah”
Whatever that means.
Again, I have no clue.
I don’t have verse 2 on the cd that I got this song from. I will have to go look it up.
You are the friend that answers my call…What about His call? Is he not the one who called us? I realize this is probably talking about calling to God in prayer, but this thing seems so me-centered.
“I would lay down my life, Just to be by your side.” Peter said similar things and was rebuked. Not necessary anyway…Christ laid down his life.
This is the reason I believe that the best worship songs are completely informed by scripture. The current lyrical style is mostly driven to be psalm-like in its expression of personal experience to God. I have no problem with that per se, but the psalms generally do a better and more complete job of that themselves.
Great lyrics come when we submit our personal experience of God to scripture. Devotion to the word gives a clarity to life, and gives a clear lens to see the God we are worshiping.
David, your insight is one that I completely understand and with which I agree. There is something powerful about singing the revelation of Scripture and rehearsing the doctrines of the faith. Our experiences are best understood in the light of that which is WRITTEN rather than that which is merely FELT!
This is just another example of current songs designed to make us feel warm and leave us with a good feeling, but that don’t say anything. It is “Seeker” friendly, man centered, not God-exalting or Christ centered. Good lyrics like good preaching must engage both the heart and the mind. The experiential and relational aspects must be based on the truth, the truth as it is presented in Scripture. Christian music should take us up to the Savior, not bring Him down to the level of our flesh.
Like it! I’m putting it into a card to the wife. Bet it gets me out of doing the dishes this evening. Thanks Scott! I owe ya!!
I figured with Valentines Day coming up some of our less romantic readers could use the help. You can sing the words to the tune of “Jimmy Crack Corn” and your wife should fall in love with you all over again.
