This past Sunday the pastors of Murrieta Valley Church had an open forum Q&A and the public was invited. Besides our church members, many people from the community came. In about seventy minutes we answered eight questions. It was one of the most humbling experiences I think I have ever experienced in my twenty years of ministry. Nevertheless, the response of the people was overwhelming and encouraging as they shook our hands at the end of night and thanked us for explaining Scripture and theology.
Here are a few of the questions that were asked from the floor: Can you explain Leviticus 11 and Acts 10 concerning unclean animals and Peter’s vision? Who were all the people that were living when Cain killed Abel? Did the Pope go to heaven? Why could Pharaoh’s magicians duplicate some but not all of Moses’ plagues? How do you explain election to someone?
We were encouraged to do such a Q&A forum by John MacArthur who does a Q&A periodically in his church and also does several at the Shepherd’s Conference. I strongly encourage all pastors to do something like this periodically. It accomplished several edifying things at once: in sharpens the skills of your leadership who sit on the panel, it encourages Bible study and theological study among your congregation, and it illustrates and reinforces our position of the sufficiency, efficiency, and eternal relevance of the Scripture.
Soon we will upload the audio of this Q&A at www.murrietavalley.sermonaudio.com.
